Named Endowed Funds

Gifts that last forever….Endowed named funds

Any individual, family, or organization can establish and name an endowed fund at Jordan that will create a permanent and very special bond between the donor and our Hospital.

  • Through a named endowed fund, the donor makes a cash gift or transfers assets to Jordan.
  • We then invest and manage these funds carefully, in perpetuity, to provide an annual income to support an area or service of the Hospital selected by the donor.
  • Endowed funds can be established provide support for a specific Hospital service or department, education, a lecture series, capital projects, and much more.
  • The minimum amount to establish an endowed fund is $25,000.
  • Lesser amounts will be recognized and may be added within a reasonable period of time, to build the fund.
  • Additional gifts made be added to grow the endowed fund at any time.

People often choose to make additional annual gifts to their endowed fund to mark an occasion such as a special birthday, the birth of a grandchild, a graduation, a wedding, an anniversary, or a memorial gift. There may be no finer way to honor someone than to establish a named endowed fund for them. It becomes a lasting tribute, a symbol of the bond between Jordan Hospital and those who are honored, resonating beyond their lifetime, into the future.

If the purpose of your endowed fund becomes obsolete or the area you wished to benefit ceases to exist, Jordan’s Board of Directors will ensure your fund continues to work for areas related closely to your original interest. Whenever possible, you will be given the opportunity to select a new direction of support.

Thank you for caring about the future of healthcare for our community.

Sykes Endowed Fund

Lawrence A. Sykes

The Lawrence A. & Frances W. Sykes Endowed Fund for geriatric care at Jordan Hospital was lovingly established in February 2008 with an extraordinary gift from the Sykes children, Fred, Frannie, Sandy and their families. This fund will provide for Jordan in perpetuity and preserve the legacy of their family’s long-standing relationship with our Hospital over more than eight decades. It was in the 1920s when Lawrence “Bill” Syke’s father suffered a ruptured appendix and Jordan Hospital saved his life. Even before that, the Sykes family had used
the Hospital’s services while summering in the area. Later when Bill moved his own family to Duxbury, he always referred to Jordan Hospital as “my hospital.” We treasure our memories of Bill and our continuing relationship with his family.

Doad Danner & Emmy Lou Hewitt Endowed Fund

Emmily Hewitt and Mary DannerJordan Hospital champions, Doad Danner and Emmy Lou Hewitt, served Jordan Hospital over several decades, most of that time in tandem, as Board members, ardent advocates, successful fundraisers and generous supporters themselves.

To commemorate their service and provide future support for their much-loved Jordan Hospital, the Doad Danner & Emmy Lou Hewitt Endowed Fund was established to support critical care services in April 2008 and was announced at a tribute luncheon held in honor of Doad and Emmy. Sadly, our dear friend, Doad, passed away just two weeks before the event. We are forever grateful to both Doad and Emmy, and offer our special thanks to Emmy for her continuing support and dedication to Jordan Hospital.

More than 140 gifts have been received to date to the Doad Danner & Emily Lou Hewitt Endowed Fund. We extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every donor, and recognize with gratitude, Donoghue Barret & Singal, P.C. and Dr. & Mrs. R. Scott Oliver, for their leadership gifts to initiate
the fund. To date, over $57,000 has been raised, in tribute to Doad & Emmy.

“I have been at Jordan Hospital for over twenty five years…
years of real change that happen to coincide with Emmy Lou
and Doad’s tenure as ‘Keepers of the Flame’ for Jordan.
Because of their leadership, our small hospital made it through
the toughest of times,to bring it to where it is now.
Thank you, from all of us, for your valiant work.”
